he looks like the evil villains in the bad medieval movies

The other day I was walking to work, kicking rocks and wondering if i would see the 2:45 weird guy today, when I got to thinking. My current boss, Glenn, is one of those guys who thinks that he is smarter than whoever he is talking to. He is always telling these stories or repeating those little facts that everyone knows a different set of. He has this degrading way of telling these things with a condescending smile and pause at the end as if he is waiting for the information to sink in and you to look up in wide eyed amazement and say to him, "Well golly Glenn, I sure do hope someday I can be as smart as you are!"
The other week I was standing behind him while he checked out the last customer before I was going to take over the register when he turns around to tell me, "Here's a tip for you, when I take someone's money I find it to be a good idea to place the money to the side while I make their change so there will be no confusion later." (big smile and pause) At the time I just looked at him, told him I usually do that anyways, and let it go. While I was walking I was thinking about this incident. As a little background it's important to know that I have just been passed up for a promotion which was given to a kid who turned into a controlling ass as soon as he was given a tiny bit of power. I'm walking along and trying to decide if it is a good idea to let Glenn know that I already know most of the facts he tells me and, because I have been working in the store for about four times longer than he has, I know all the little tips he gives me. If I do this he will realize that I am not in fact an idiot and am capable of figuring things out for myself. Then again, is it a better idea to act dumb and let him think he is teaching me all these things and that I am a quick lerner. This way he will have that feeling of being smarter than me but still respect me as a good student in the delicate craft of noodle buffet service.
After about 3 minutes of deep thought I was suddenly disgusted by the whole thing and spent the rest of the walk wondering if 2:45 weird guy lives by my house or just parks his car there.

Twust in Jesus

I'm allergic to Tucson. Right now this whole place is in blossom, which basically means that the scraggly trees have scraggly little flowers that color clash with the tree next to them. There's one tree with little tiny orange blossoms on it.Except, the blossoms look like little tiny spiky poof balls about the size of a marble. Really ugly. It looks like if you plucked two off the tree, shoved a nail through them, then wore them as a pair of earrings accompanied with a glow stick you'd fit right in at a rave. The worst part, well besides me being allergic to them, is they smell. They smell like the sour orange perfume that people buy as body lotion at Victoria's Secret.

My friend Hillery, born and raised the fair state of Arizona, and I were walking out of class and we pass under one of the offending trees. As I contemplate whether or not i can make it to my next building without breathing she loudly exclaims, "That's the greatest smell in the world!"

That's what old people do

Thursday night I'm having dinner with my parents. This is the first dinner we've had with just the three of us in a long while. After we finish eating my mother and I are away from the table doing various after dinner cleaning tasks while my dad works on his dessert. I put the last of my silverware into the dishwasher and hear a giggle in the background. As I turn around I realize that it's coming from my father. He's sitting at the kitchen table, face leaned closed to the wood, a Teddy Graham in each hand, wiggling the chocolate bears in front of his face. I stare and he looks up at me, huge smile on his face and says, "They're dancing!" Then looks back down at the waltzing cookies and continues the dance.

We're all hungry and dumb for friday

So, it's Thursday night before spring break. I have a linguistics quiz tomorrow. Ha. Studying in Arizona would be an exercise in gross over-achievement. Instead I'm doing this because I've bitched to everyone who will physically listen to me and clearly, I haven't been satisfied.

Right now I work for the Student Union on campus. I work in the Three Cheeses and a Noodle which is basically a watered down, over priced noodle buffet. My job involves scooping noodles, smiling at customers, cooking, cleaning marinara stains, working cash register, busing tables, washing dishes, and whatever else. Just like any other low paying, low skill job, when shit needs to be done whoever is standing around does it. Well, Tuesday was Carina's job eveluation day to see if she has earned her 25 cent raise. Basically, I sit down with Glenn (boss) and he checks off this sheet that lists all the above jobs to see if I'm fufilling my duties. Since I'm actually a good worker the majority of the form is a no-brainier, until we got to the busing question. Glenn checks off the 'never' box and claims that I haven't been doing dishes. Because Glenn makes me uncomfortable and I knew I was getting the raise regardless I figured what the hell and didn't argue about the whole dishes thing. (Keep in mind before Glenn came around I did dishes nearly every time I worked and even now I still do them on a regular basis) Well that night I decide to take the hint that maybe I'm not doing them as often as I could be so I tackle them all by myself. Naturally, it takes me an hour and 15 minutes to finish which is way after everyone else has gone home for the day.

Denise(cashier) decides that I have gone above and beyond and tells Glenn about my dish washing experience on Wednesday. Thursday rolls around and I arrive for work at 3. At 3:05 Glenn comes up to me. Here's how it goes:

"Hi Carina."
"Hello."
"I hear you were initiated on Tuesday."
(Look of confusion) "Initiated? What are you talking about?"
(He breaks out that big condesending smile I hate) "You did the dishes!"

It's 10:06 and inside I'm still standing there with my mouth hanging open.
